It’s almost here. It happens every year. Are you ready for it? If you aren’t, we have a few suggestions that will help you make the coming mosquito season less mosquitoey than the last one. Here’s what you need to know.
When temperatures reach a consistent 50 degrees, mosquitoes begin to hatch from their eggs. In our middle Tennessee service area, this happens around the end of March and early April. Before those eggs hatch, it is important to do the following:
Make sure all your screens are repaired or replaced. Door and window screens are your frontline defense for keeping mosquitoes out of your home.
Examine your gutters and make sure they are not broken or obstructed. It only takes a half cup of water for mosquitoes to breed in your yard. Pools of water in gutters or on the ground will be enough for mosquitoes.
Address areas in your yard and near your home that get damp. If you have excessive shade that prevents the sun from drying up rainwater, consider trimming trees, bushes, shrubs, and vegetation and let the sun through.
Look for objects in your yard that capture water. If those objects can be removed or stored away, it is important to do so now, before mosquitoes use them as a breeding location. Just like your gutters, any objects with a pocket or trough can be a potential pool for breeding.
Professional Mosquito Service
While the above tips can help you reduce mosquitoes in your yard, for best results, it is important to partner with an experienced pest control company. An educated pest control technician will not only help you address mosquito breeding sites, but also the destruction of mosquitoes in hiding locations around your home.
At All-American Pest Control, our Perimeter Plus Pest Control actively destroys mosquitoes when they hide in your yard. And, since most mosquitoes don’t travel more than a few hundred yards in their entire lifespan, this routine treatment can make a big difference in how many mosquitoes you see in your yard.
Mosquitoes are more than a nuisance pest. They can transmit harmful viruses like Zika, West Nile, malaria, dengue, and chikungunya. Invest in mosquito service for your home and enjoy your yard this year with less fear of mosquito-borne illnesses.
